Sleeping well is the easiest way to look and feel better, but it can often be a challenge to find the kind of mind/body balance that allows for great rest. Stress, anxiety, physical health problems, and depression can all play a role in both the quality and quantity of your sleep, but the good news is there are some simple ways to change your habits to feel better. Start by finding resources and a supportive community with Minsu Healing Oasis, which can help you find ways to manage pain and find overall wellness. Here are a few tips on how to find comfort and make your sleep habits more manageable.

Get comfortable.

It’s hard to get good sleep when you’re too warm, too cold, or generally uncomfortable, so this is a good place to start when you’re trying to make changes for the sake of rest. Your bed, bedding, and clothing play a role in how you feel at night, so look for soft, temperature-appropriate fabrics that will help you relax no matter the season. Satin or silk sheets and pillowcases are thought to help a sleeper stay cool and keep skin and hair looking and feeling refreshed. Pajamas, nightgowns, and even underwear can affect your ability to get comfortable, but the right pieces will work wonders.

Get some fresh air.

Clothing and bedding are just two of the outside factors that can affect sleep. Your environment plays a pretty big role, and that includes things like lighting, electronic devices, and air quality. Changing the air filters in your home is a good start as these can collect allergens, dust, pet hair and dander, and other debris that can cause issues with your breathing at night. You can also add plants to your home. Opening the windows on calm, warm days can help air things out while getting outside for a bit each day can help reset your inner clock and ensure swift, quality sleep.

Stretch it out.

After you’ve had a long day, it’s a good idea to prepare your body for bed. You might practice a few yoga poses at night, which will help you relax, or simply do some stretches and shoulder rolls to unwind. If you get into the habit of doing these exercises each day, they can help you banish stress or anxiety, as well, especially if you learn to work in meditation as you go. Mindfulness is an easy way to let go of the day and prepare for rest and can be done just about anywhere once you get the hang of it. If you prefer, you can practice yoga outdoors to get in some of that fresh air — shoot for after dinner to make it an effective way to unwind.

Eat right.

Speaking of dinner, it’s always a good idea to work solid nutrition into your daily goals. Not only will you likely feel better if you reduce refined sugars and certain carbs, you’ll sleep better, too. Studies have shown that eating particular foods too close to bedtime can have an adverse effect on your sleep quality, including those with caffeine and those that include red meat, which takes a long time to digest and can leave your body working overtime when you’re trying to rest. Instead, reach for lean meats, berries, and dark, leafy greens.

The kind of sleep you’re getting can affect your ability to look and feel your best, so it’s important to talk to your doctor if you make changes and still have trouble at night. Typically, those who factor in their environment, eating and exercise habits, and overall well-being will find success with getting the best rest possible.
